The K9 Candy Cane 5K Fun Run and Walk is held at the Renton Community Center Campus. Runners and walkers travel along the paved beautiful Cedar River Trail before looping back to the Community Center Campus. Competitive runners, fun runners, walkers and families (with or without) dogs are all invited to this annual event. Accurate and professional chip timing is provided by Bell Lap Productions. If registered before 12 p.m. November 22, participants will receive a hooded sweatshirt. Don't forget about our Annual Pet Food Drive for furry friends in need, help us FILL THE TRUCK!

Please note, the City of Renton Recreation Division is aware of the recent mystery dog respiratory illness outbreak and recommends a few precautions for participants and their K9s. Here is what you can expect:

  • As it states in the registration requirements all dogs MUST be current on all K9 vaccinations to participate in this event.
The event will be held entirely outdoors.
  • We recommend NO nose-to-nose street greetings or other greetings between dogs even if they are familiar with their K9 friends.
  • We recommend that both pet owners and others use caution and not pet dogs that don't belong to them as it is uncertain on how the illness is spread.
  • Bring your own drinking water vessel for your pet, we will not provide a community water source. Bottled water will be onsite, no bowls will be provided.
  • Keep your dog(s) at a distance from other dogs, a maximum 6ft. leash is required, and always be a respectful pet owner and clean up right away after your dog.
  • We recommend not stopping for a visit at the Cedar River Dog Park.
  • Do not bring your dog(s) if they are showing signs of being under the weather.
  • Participants that will not follow these recommendations may be asked to leave the event.

Symptoms of the mystery virus may include coughing, sneezing, eye or nose discharge, are abnormally tired. Veterinarians are reporting an increased number of acute respiratory infections ranging from mild and self-limiting to life-threatening pneumonia.
