TRACK Trail Grand Opening at Cedar River Trail Park is May 4
Self-guided nature adventure is the first of its type in the state of Washington
RENTON, WA – Renton’s Cedar River Trail will include the first TRACK Trail in the state of Washington.
Renton families are invited to kick off this unique self-guided outdoor adventure starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. Cedar River Trail Park is located at 1060 Nishiwaki Lane, Renton, WA 98056.
“Renton takes great pride in providing a high quality of life to our residents and visitors,” said Mayor Denis Law. “It is a testament to our goal of providing those opportunities that we are the first city in Washington to host such a unique outdoor experience.”
Kids are invited to explore outdoors using brochures for self-guided adventures. For each adventure, kids can register through kidsinparks.com and earn prizes after reaching certain milestones. Prizes include Trail TRACKer gear (nature journal, TRACK Sac, bandana), a Kids in Parks patch, magnifying glass, walking stick medallion and a trail sticker for every trail tracked.
The City of Renton’s Community Services Department, King County’s Department of Natural Resources and Parks and the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation have teamed up to bring this unique experience to Renton. Cedar River Trail Park joins more than 160 TRACK Trails established in 10 states, Washington DC and the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation.
Studies show youth in the United States spend a little over seven-and-a-half hours per day on electronic devices and only an average of seven minutes per day in unstructured outdoor play. TRACK Trail is part of the Kids in Parks program, which was developed to get kids physically active in parks, both to benefit their health and the health of parks.
