City of Renton Mayor Armondo Pavone issued the following statement in response to the recent acts of senseless violence.

“Over the past weeks, we have seen more senseless violence throughout our country and in our region. The tragic killings and violence at Club Q, an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado, the University of Idaho, and the University of Virginia, plus several shootings here in our area, have left many mourning the tragic loss and injury of their loved ones. We offer our condolences to the victims and their families and mourn the loss of these innocent lives.

We cannot look at such acts of violence in isolation or allow them to be ignored. Our community’s safety remains my highest priority. We are committed to enforcing a hate-free city that is welcoming and inclusive for all our residents, businesses, and guests.

Police Chief Schuldt and the members of the Renton Police Department remain committed to protecting our community and we, as a city, are committed to providing resources to address these challenges.

I recognize that is not enough. I ask you to help us stop and prevent these violent and biased crimes from taking place. If you are aware of a crime taking place or see or hear of a violent act taking place, please call 911.

By working together, we can help keep Renton safe for all our communities.”
