Juneteenth Celebration - 2020
Juneteenth celebrates June 19, 1865, when the last remaining slaves were set free in Texas and is a significant milestone in our country's history. In Renton, we have celebrated this event with community gatherings, workshops and music.
COVID-19 has prevented that in 2020, so please enjoy this video capturing our past events and celebrate Juneteeth.
Tour of Renton's African American sites
Long-time Renton residents John Houston and Benita Horn host a virtual tour of Renton's African Americans sites.
African Americans began migrating to Renton to escape the segregated South in the early 1900’s and seek a better future for their families. Their industry helped build Renton and enables us to highlight landmarks that honor their contributions up to the present.
