Judge Giner replaces Judge Terry Jurado who retired after 22 years on the bench

RENTON, WA – Judge Jessica Giner has been appointed to the Renton Municipal Court bench, effective April 1, 2021. Her appointment was made by Mayor Armondo Pavone and unanimously confirmed by Renton City Council at their meeting on Monday, March 22.

Judge Jessica GinerJudge Giner replaces Judge Terry Jurado, who retired after 22 years on the bench. She joins Judge Kara Murphy Richards as the court’s two judges. Judge Murphy Richards will be the court’s presiding judge.

“It gives me great pleasure to appoint Judge Giner to the court,” said Mayor Armondo Pavone. “She brings with her a tremendous wealth of knowledge, experience, and understanding of the challenges that are specific to the Renton community. Her experience will better serve our community.”

Judge Giner has served in a judicial role in dozens of courts in Western Washington for the past 15 years. Over the last six years she has almost 600 days on the bench, including serving as a pro tem judge in Renton since 2016. She has earned a rating of “Exceptionally Well Qualified” from the King County Bar Association and top ratings from six minority bar associations: QLaw, Latina/o Bar Association, Cardozo Society, Joint Asian Judicial Evaluation Committee, Washington Women Lawyers, and Loren Miller Bar Association.

“I am very honored and appreciate the confidence Mayor Pavone and the City Council have shown in me,” said Judge Giner. “Renton is such a great city—so diverse and community focused. I’m looking forward to making this court a model for other municipalities by focusing on inclusivity, innovation, and public safety.”

The judge and her husband have two young children. She is an active member of Renton Rotary Club and a volunteer with Renton Chamber of Commerce. Until her judicial appointment, she was also a member of the King County Women’s Advisory Board where she has addressed gender-based domestic violence, particularly in minority communities, and advocated for county funding for affordable childcare. She coaches a Mock Trial team at Eastlake High School and is a volunteer with Girl Scouts and Little League.
