City looks to fill vacant Council position
RENTON, WA – The City of Renton is seeking applicants to fill the final two years of position 2 on the City Council. Position 2 was held by current Mayor Armondo Pavone.
The council at their January 6 meeting unanimously passed a resolution clarifying the policy and procedure for filling vacancies on the city council.
1. To qualify for consideration, an applicant must:

Meet all state requirements for the position

Be a registered voter of the City of Renton

Have residency within the corporate limits of Renton at least one year immediately prior to consideration for the vacancy
2. Qualified applicants will be considered for the vacancy by submitting:
3. All materials must be submitted to the City Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020.
4. During their regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 27, 2020, the council will deliberate the merits of the candidates. The council may elect to recess into executive session during the meeting to conduct the deliberations, however any selection of a candidate or slate of candidates to interview will be done during the open session of the meeting.
5. If council selects a slate of candidates to interview, the date and time and place of those interviews will be on Feb. 3, 2020, at 3:30 p.m. in Council Chambers as part of the Committee of the Whole meeting.
6. Later that same night, at the regularly scheduled council meeting, the council may vote to appoint a candidate from the slate of candidates. Whomever is selected will then be sworn in by the city clerk at the next regularly scheduled council meeting.
