City of Renton accepting applications for second round of Tourism Promotion Grants
Deadline for applications is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021
RENTON, WA – The City of Renton is accepting applications for the second round of 2021 tourism promotion grants. The grants are available to convention and visitors bureaus, destination marketing organizations, non-profits such as chambers of commerce and lodging associations, and municipalities to support tourism marketing and operations in Renton.
This second round of grants comes as the state allowed businesses to fully reopen on June 30.
Renton City Council awards the Tourism Promotion Grants. They are funded by the state’s Hotel-Motel Tax, collected on all city lodging stays of less than 30 days in length. The city council has appointed a Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) and tasked it with distributing these funds. Grant proposals are reviewed by the committee, composed of council members, lodging owners, and community members appointed by the mayor. The city council takes LTAC’s recommendations under advisement when determining final grant awards.
The LTAC committee will prioritize applications that involve multi-day events, including athletic, along with events that promote diversity and inclusivity. Additionally, the committee will continue to seriously consider projects with a proven track record of attracting overnight visitors.
Applications from qualifying entities are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021. Finalists will be invited to present their requests to LTAC on August 2 via Zoom. The committee will make its final recommendations for funding to Renton City Council by mid-August.
The application is available online. Questions concerning applications may be directed to Cliff Long, Economic Development Director, at 425-430-6591 or via email at [email protected].
