RENTON, WA – To bike share or not to bike share; that is the question the City of Renton is asking their residents through an online survey.

The short 10-question survey will help the city determine the level of interest and the concerns that need to be addressed before bike-sharing companies are allowed to operate.

Licensing a bike sharing program would provide an additional means of transportation. The bicycles would be "dockless," meaning they would not be returned to a fixed bike corral. Bike share services would be operated by private companies and would be subject to fees and regulations determined by the city.

The City of Seattle recently completed a pilot bike share program. The cities of Bothell, Tacoma, and Spokane have allowed a limited number of bikes as part of a pilot program, and Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond are considering implementing pilot programs in the coming months.
