Construction has begun on the city's water reservoir directly behind the new Kennydale Fire Station 15 on N 30th St. You can expect the following construction activities:

• Site grading work: Crews will begin using equipment to grade the site and prepare for retaining wall and foundation construction. This work will take approximately one

• Auger cast pile and foundation installation: Equipment will be used to auger cast foundation piles for the reservoir. Auger cast piles are constructed with rebar baskets that are placed into the holes and then filled with concrete. Piles are then tied together with additional rebar prior to the mat foundation being poured. There will be no pile driving. This step is expected to take about three to four weeks.

• Vertical construction: Once the foundation is complete, vertical construction of the steel reservoir tank will begin. Steel panels will be welded into place to form the reservoir.

• Public art process: The reservoir will be painted with artwork after recommendations by the City of Renton's Municipal Arts Commission and approval by the city. An artist will be hired to help create mural concepts that reflect community ideas. Stay tuned to the project website and listserv for additional information about the public art process will be shared this summer.

• Offsite water system improvements: Related offsite improvements to balance water system demands in the area are currently in design; work at several locations in the roadway is anticipated in the fall of 2019 until summer 2020. Additional information will be provided to neighbors as these improvements go into construction.

Reservoir construction is expected to take about 12 months to complete and will typically occur during the work week in normal daytime business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). No weekend work is expected.

Construction of the fire station began in February 2018 and occupancy was achieved in February 2019.

The city and RRFA worked closely with the community, providing updated information about the design and to solicit input at key points in the process.

The project team conducted outreach through community briefings and hosted a public meeting prior to submitting an environmental review and land use permit application.

Construction of the Kennydale Reservoir presents an opportunity for a public art mural on this painted steel tank. The City of Renton has selected a muralist, Artistbrothers, to work with the community and the Renton Municipal Arts Commission on this public art piece.

Artistbrothers has created three initial artistic mural concepts. The community is invited to provide feedback on these concepts through January 31 and in person at the Kennydale Neighborhood Association meeting on January 28.

After community input is collected, Artistbrothers will refine two design concepts and present them to the Renton Municipal Arts Commission for their review and recommendations. 

The City of Renton Community and Economic Development Administrator will make a final decision on the public art application. Construction of the Kennydale Reservoir is expected to be complete in spring 2020, after which the tank is scheduled to be painted.
