The City Clerk's office preserves the City's official records and maintains and provides accurate and timely information through various media formats to meet the needs of City Officials, the community, and City Departments. The City Clerk is a full-time, non-civil service position. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

To learn more about your rights as a citizen of Washington to obtain public records from the city of Renton - or any other governmental entity in this state - visit the Office of the Attorney General or the Municipal Research and Services Center of Washington. 

Legislative Information

The Renton City Council meets on the first four Mondays of the month, unless the scheduled meeting has been cancelled or the date falls on a holiday.

Citizenship and Voting

Contact the United States Citizen and Immigration Service to become a citizen of the United States. This federal agency provides information and resources to people who have just become permanent residents in the United States, and when they are ready and eligible to begin the formal naturalization process.


To vote in the state of Washington, voter registration or a registration transfer must be completed 30 days prior to an election. Mail registrations must be postmarked by the 30-day cutoff or it will not become effective until after the election.

In-person registration is accepted at the King County Elections Department until 15 days before the election. King County Elections is located at 919 SW Grady Way, Renton WA 98057. In Renton, citizens are not required to register in person. Mail-in voter registration forms are available at: 

  • Renton City Hall, City Clerk Division, Seventh Floor, 1055 South Grady Way, Renton, Washington 98057, Monday thru Friday
  • Renton Library, 100 Mill Avenue South Renton, Washington 98057, Monday thru Saturday
  • Renton Highlands Library, 2901 NE 12th Street, Renton, Washington 98056, Monday thru Saturday, excluding Friday

The City Clerk Division

The City Clerk Division preserves the city's official records and maintains and provides accurate and timely information through various media formats to meet the needs of city officials, the community, and city departments. Every city in Washington state has a city clerk's office. These offices work under specific authorities imposed by the laws of the State of Washington and ordinance of a specific city government.


  • Maximizing access to city government.
  • Attending all meetings of the city council and keeping a complete record of the proceedings thereof; supporting council in its legislative and policy-making functions. 
  • Citywide records management.
  • Maintaining custody of: the city's seal; the original roll of ordinances; the original contracts, recorded documents relative to the title of any property of the city; providing the public access to records.
  • Attesting all public instruments and official acts of the mayor and providing certified copies of original records as may be required.
  • Publishing legal notices, processing petitions, managing departmental budget, and serving on the Fireman's Pension Board. 


The city clerk's role, and that of all staff of the city clerk division, requires neutrality and independence as key qualities in conducting business. The office is a non-political and objective component of government service; all city departments contribute to the city clerk's delivery of services to the community.
