Project Description

The SW 43rd Street Preservation Project will resurface the roadway from the western city limits to the SR 167 Ramps, except where there are existing concrete panels. This project will also upgrade all intersection ramps to current ADA standards as well as install and replace all delineation to City of Renton standards. Also included in this project are the adjustment or evaluation for replacement of existing features affected by resurfacing such as monuments, catch basins, or drainage grates.

Project Background

SW 43rd Street is a principal arterial with 5-6 lanes of travel and a daily traffic volume of 30,000 vehicles. This major east-west corridor serves and connects directly into the Tukwila Regional Growth Center and is classified as a T-1 truck route.

SW 43rd Street connects directly to SR 167 and is used as a main access to Valley Medical Center, IKEA, Costco Wholesale, Southcenter Parkway and other major area employment centers. As a connector street for an all-day transit route that serves E. Valley Highway, SW 43rd St also serves as a transit route for a Demand Area Response Transit (DART) route that connects Southcenter Parkway to the Fairwood neighborhood.

Resurfacing this roadway will improve the overall condition of the pavement and the project will extend the pavement life (12 to 15 years) of this key east-west South County corridor that connects Tukwila, Renton, and Kent.
