RENTON, WA – Renton City Councilmember Angelina Benedetti earned her Certificate of Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC).
“My congratulations to Councilmember Benedetti,” said Renton Mayor Armondo Pavone. “I commend her dedication to our residents and her focus on learning and leadership, especially this year when all of us have experienced the challenges of COVID-19.”
AWC’s Certificate of Municipal Leadership program recognizes city and town elected officials for accomplishing training in four core areas:
-
Roles, responsibilities and legal requirements
-
Public sector resource management
-
Community planning and development
-
Effective local leadership
Councilmember Benedetti completed more than 30 hours of training credits to earn this distinction.
“Cities and towns around the state are continually transforming in light of changing laws and the need to meet new challenges and opportunities,” said AWC Chief Executive Officer Peter B. King.
“Our Certificate of Municipal Leadership program helps mayors and councilmembers sharpen the tools they need today to understand the legal landscape, plan for the future, manage their resources, and foster strong relationships. The elected officials who earn this certificate demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and a desire to bring new ideas back to their community.”
Councilmember Benedetti is in her second year on the Renton City Council. She was appointed by the council in February 2020 to fill the seat vacated after councilmember Armondo Pavone was elected mayor in November 2019. She chairs the Utilities Committee, is vice-chair of the Community Services Committee and is a member of the Transportation Committee.
She joins fellow councilmembers Ed Prince (Certificate in 2015), Ruth Pérez (Advanced Certificate in 2019), and Valerie O’Halloran (Certificate in 2020) in earning this certificate.
