City of Renton celebrates National Day of Service
Renton's day of volunteer mobilization is September 8
RENTON, WA - The City of Renton will host their ninth annual Day of Service on Saturday, September 8, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., where volunteers engage in service activities around the city in observance of the anniversary of September 11.
The city has identified several volunteer projects throughout the city that are part of the day’s activities. These include park maintenance projects and the marking of storm drains.
After working on their projects, volunteers are invited to a Celebration of Service picnic lunch from noon to 1 p.m. at Liberty Park. Entertainment will be provided by Eurasia Consort and is sponsored by King County Library System.
The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance was established by Congress in 2009 and culminated an effort started in 2002 by 9/11 family members and survivors. The day asks residents to give a day of service to their communities as a way of honoring and remembering victims and first responders of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
