Join the Arts Commission

The City of Renton is excited to announce two openings on the Renton Municipal Arts Commission (RMAC), and we’re looking for passionate individuals to join us! As a member of RMAC, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the artistic and cultural future of our vibrant city. You'll play a key role in advising the mayor and city council on arts initiatives, overseeing city-funded art displays, promoting arts education, and expanding community engagement with the arts.

We’re currently seeking two new members to serve three-year terms. Monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. If you’re passionate about the arts and eager to make a lasting impact, this is your chance to be part of something truly special!

2025 RMAC grants
The Renton Municipal Arts Commission is excited to announce the opening of the 2025 Art Grant Program! This initiative invites individuals, organizations, and community groups to apply for funding aimed at enriching Renton's cultural landscape. The grants support diverse arts and culture projects and events that are accessible to the entire community, with a special emphasis on fostering innovative initiatives that bridge cultural gaps, particularly for underserved groups.

Applications are evaluated on a quarterly basis and must be submitted electronically by 4:30 p.m. on the specified deadline to be eligible for consideration. There are four opportunities to apply for project funding in 2025: October 18, 2024; February 7, 2025; April 18, 2025; and July 18, 2025. Grants have typically ranged from $500 to $10,000, with projects expected to occur in 2025 and completed by December 15, 2025. Applicants are encouraged to thoroughly review the Grant Guidelines before submitting their proposals. Renton Art Lounge Welcome to the Renton Art Lounge, a monthly haven for artists held at the Black River Cultural Arts Center. Gather with us every third Wednesday of the month, from 4 to 7 PM, for an evening brimming with artistic connection and inspiration.

What to Expect:

  • Networking: Engage with fellow artists and enthusiasts in a vibrant and welcoming environment.
  • Learn and Create: Each month features a short program where you can acquire new skills, share techniques, or broaden your art knowledge—all while nurturing your creative spirit.

At the Renton Art Lounge, local artists are the stars, showcasing their talents and fostering connections for all to relish. Whether you're eager to join in a shared learning experience, bring your own project, or simply connect with like-minded individuals, you're encouraged to participate.

Renton Municipal Arts Commission

Renton Municipal Arts Commission (RMAC) was formed by Resolution 1320, on August 9, 1965. Overseeing an annual budget, the commission is charged with the responsibility of acting in an advisory capacity to city government in connection with the artistic and cultural development of the city.

The commission strives to support and connect people with arts and culture endeavors in the Renton community. The goals include: 

  • Enrich and increase participation and awareness of the cultural and artist community.  

  • Serve as Renton’s source for arts information

  • Increase funding opportunities for arts and culture programs

  • Advocate for arts education at all levels

  • Advise the city on arts related projects and public art.
