DuvallTo address increased traffic on this roadway, this project widened Duvall Ave N.E. to five lanes (including a two-way left-turn lane in the middle) from the Sunset (SR 900)/Duvall Ave N.E. intersection to the north City Limits at N.E. 23rd Street, constructed curb, gutter, sidewalks and bicycle lanes on both sides of Duvall Ave N.E., converted overhead power lines to underground and included safety features at specific locations.

This project was done in conjunction with improvements within the King County portion of the road and will complement the City of Newcastle's Coal Creek Parkway Widening project to the north.

RoadwayThe portion within King County was managed by the City of Renton and is reflected in the Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) as Duvall Avenue N.E. (Coal Creek Parkway - King County) TIP#4.

Schedule

In order to limit the construction duration to about one year, the City Council approved Duvall Avenue N.E./Coal Creek Parkway be closed to through traffic between Sunset and S.E. 95th Way beginning in 2008 and lasted approximately twelve months. On December 10, 2007, the City Council passed Resolution 3922 supporting the one-year construction closure of Duvall Avenue N.E.

The detour for traffic was via N.E. Sunset Boulevard (SR 900) and I-405.

Construction started in June of 2008. Duvall Avenue N.E. was re-opened in July 2009.

Budget

Duvall Ave Rendering$8.5 million programmed into the TIP. The city received a TIB grant in partnership with King County; the City of Newcastle also received a TIB grant for their section of Coal Creek Parkway. The City of Renton's grant award is $3,095,640. The City is managing King County's project separately.
