Valerie O’Halloran sworn in to fill vacant City Council position

RENTON, WA ¬ Valarie O’Halloran was sworn in on Dec. 2 to fill the vacant position 3 on the Renton City Council.

Ms. O’Halloran was elected to the seat in the November 2019 General Election and will serve the remainder of the term of Carol Ann Witschi, who resigned on Sept. 1, before serving her own four-year term on Jan. 1, 2020.

Ms. O’Halloran has lived in Renton for the past 23 years. She has been active in the community volunteering with the Renton Arts Commission, Renton River Days, Arbor Day/Earth Day celebration, neighborhood picnics and cleanups and various community initiatives. For the past nine years she served on the Board of Directors for the Renton Regional Community Foundation, helping to shape the philanthropic vision for Renton.

She was born in Germany and also lived in Turkey and Japan as a member of an Air Force family, before moving to the United States at age 10. Immediately after graduating high school, Ms. O’Halloran began working full time. Before retiring, Valerie had a successful 30-year career in accounting, financial analysis, and process improvement.

Her first meeting as a member of the Renton City Council will be Monday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. All City Council meetings are shown live on Channel 21 in Renton and also streamed at rentonwa.gov/21.
