Shoreline Master Program Periodic Review

The City of Renton is undertaking a periodic review of its Shoreline Master Program (SMP), as required by the Washington State Shoreline Management Act. According to state requirements, all SMPs must be reviewed and, if needed, revised on an eight-year cycle; this is called the periodic review. Renton’s periodic review must be submitted to the Washington Ecology (Ecology) by June 2019. Conducting a periodic review ensures that Renton’s SMP is an effective and up-to-date document that:
  • reflects changes in laws and rules;
  • remains consistent with Renton’s other plans and regulations;
  • responds to changed circumstances; and
  • incorporates new information and improved data.
The City will solicit public comments throughout the process, commencing upon the Notice of Application and concluding upon the close of the public hearing. The Planning Commission will conduct a joint comment period and public hearing using Ecology’s optional SMP amendment process that allows for a combined state-local comment period.

Public comment will be accepted on the proposal through December 7, 2018 at 5:00 PM. All comments received by the City of Renton will be forwarded to the Department of Ecology. Send comments by email or postal mail to:
