Public works

The Public Works Department protects the health and safety of the community by overseeing the operation and maintenance of the city's infrastructure. Public Works is composed of the following divisions.

Facilities

The city has a range of facilities available to residents and visitors, including theaters, recreation and neighborhood centers, a museum, aquatic center, and more.

They host activities for all ages as well plays, banquets, and special activities.

Maintenance

Maintenance operates and maintains the city's infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, bridges, equipment, water, wastewater, and surface water utility systems. It also monitors the Solid Waste Utility litter control program.

Renton Municipal Airport

Renton Municipal Airport is owned and managed by the City of, and is a general aviation airport serving Renton and other nearby communities. Located at the south shore of Lake Washington, the Airport has a land-based and sea-based airstrip. The Boeing 737 series are built at the Renton Boeing Plant across the Cedar River and leave Renton on their maiden flight.

Sustainability and Solid Waste

The Sustainability and Solid Waste division supports greenhouse gas emission reductions, zero waste of resources, renewable energy use, resource conservation and stewardship, and sustainable infrastructure.

Transportation Systems

Transportation Systems plans, designs, constructs, operates and maintains a transportation system that provides safe and efficient movement of people and goods; enhances environmental quality; and is compatible with local and regional mobility goals and development objectives.

Utility Systems

Utility Systems manages water, wastewater, and surface water, to ensure quality planning, engineering, operations, financial integrity, and customer service.
