City mourns the passing of Al Talley, Sr., Community Leader and School Board Member

RENTON, WA – Long-time Renton School Board member Mr. Albert Talley, Sr. passed away last night at Harborview Hospital with his family at his side.
 
AlTalleySr“It is with a very heavy heart that the City of Renton mourns the sudden loss of Al Talley,” said Mayor Denis Law. “Al was a dedicated public servant whose passion for this city came through in everything he did. He was a Renton icon and beloved by everyone in the community. On behalf of the entire city, we send our deepest condolences to his wife Candis, their children and family.”
 
Mr. Talley was a dynamic community leader in Renton for decades. Besides serving as a school board member for over 16 years, he was a long-time mentor for young students and board member of Communities In Schools of Renton. He served as the chairman of the City of Renton’s Human Rights Commission, chairman of the Board of the Renton Chamber of Commerce, was active in Renton Rotary, and a regular volunteer for many local organizations and service clubs. In 2005, Mr. Talley was named Renton Citizen of the Year, formally recognizing his contributions that helped to nurture the soul and sense of community in Renton through his selfless acts of generosity and volunteerism.
 
Mr. Talley was always offering his help on local projects and shied away from any recognition. He was a tremendous ambassador for the Renton community and will truly be missed. Mr. Talley is survived by his wife and their four children Debra, Albert Jr., Michael and Susan; along with many family members.
 
The Talley family is working on arrangements for a public service and the Renton School District will provide the information as it becomes available.
 
Visitation is Wednesday, April 5, 5-8 at Greenwood Cemetery, 350 Monroe Avenue NE, Renton
Public Memorial is Saturday, April 8, 1-3 at Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center, Renton High School, 400 So. Second Street
