Outdoor EllipiticalsThe City of Renton’s Community Services Department recently purchased two pieces of outdoor ‘elliptical’ exercise equipment as part of the South King County multi-city “I” CANN initiative. The initiative is a collaborative effort to help reduce not only childhood but adult obesity.

The City of Renton and Valley Medical are leading the charge to help educate children and families about this chronic health issue. Along with eight local cities, King County Public Health, King County Parks, businesses and organizations are promoting healthy activity opportunities and nutritional information.

The elliptical training equipment is installed adjacent to the playground at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park to encourage visitors to exercise and provide an easy way to watch as children use the playground. This helps to set a good example for children on how to develop healthy eating and exercise habits.

There are plans for additional outdoor exercise equipment to be installed in other parks in the future.
