RENTON – The engraved marble plaques on the Veteran’s Memorial, located in the park at the intersection of Main Avenue South and South 3rd Street, will be replaced with new black granite panels with engraved plaques. The existing marble plaques have experienced leaching of the grout material from behind the plaques where they were affixed to the wall. In order to remedy the cracked and stained plaques and permanently improve the appearance of the memorial wall, new polished black granite panels with engraved plaques will be installed. The new plaques will have the same look and location on the memorial.

The renovation will start on April 17 and be completed by mid-May. The project was funded by the Renton Community Foundation’s Charles L. Custer Fund, which supports parks programs and services in Renton.

The City of Renton will host a Memorial Day Celebration at the park on May 26 at 1:00 p.m. to honor veterans. For more information on the renovation project or the Memorial Day celebration, visit rentonwa.gov or call the Community Services Department at 425-430-6600.  VetPark
