Renton’s Farmers Market Fresh, Fun and Fabulous

Congressman Adam Smith visits Renton's Farmers MarketRENTON, WA — On Monday, August 5, Mayor Denis Law presented a proclamation declaring the week of August 4-10, 2013 to be “Farmers Market Week” in acknowledgment of the generous participation of local farmers and vendors to the community.

The Renton Farmers Market at the Piazza is currently in full swing, operating each week and providing visitors with a friendly market experience that is fun for the whole family. Shoppers can enjoy an amazing selection of beautiful flowers, locally grown fresh and organic fruits and vegetables, and other wholesome natural food products.

“Renton’s Farmers Market continues to be one of our most successful and enjoyable community events,” said Mayor Denis Law. “The farmers market is very important for our local economy and everyone benefits from it–local vendors, businesses in downtown Renton, and our community.”

As part of Farmers Market Week, Congressman Adam Smith joined Mayor Law on Tuesday, August 6, to visit the Renton Farmers Market.

“As we celebrate Farmers Market Week, it is critical that we recognize the role farmers markets can play in keeping our communities healthy with sustainable local food sources,” said Congressman Smith. “The Renton Farmers Market is a perfect example of this as it brings our community together, offers healthy, fresh, and affordable food options that can be purchased through WIC/ Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, and supports the local economy by reinvesting funds back into local businesses.”

As a proven economic driver for our city, Renton Farmers Market is averaging over 3,500 visitors each week. Surveys have indicated that 60% of the visitors to the Renton Farmers Market visit other downtown Renton businesses before or after their trips to the market.

Celebrating its twelfth year, the Renton Farmers Market at the Piazza is open on Tuesdays through September 24 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and is located in a beautiful urban park in the heart of downtown, adjacent to the Renton Transit Center.
