GraceReceivesGovAwardRENTON: Renton Senior Activity Center volunteer Grace C. Hanson was recently recognized by Governor Inslee for her outstanding contribution as a volunteer. Hanson has been running the senior center coffee bar six hours a day, five days a week since 1998. In addition to the coffee bar, she also volunteers at the center’s lunch program where seniors enjoy nutritional, made-from-scratch meals five days a week.

The center is funded by the City of Renton and offers a wide range of high-quality activities attracting over 300 seniors each day. Donations from local businesses help fund the center, but what keeps it running is the talent and devotion of the 110 volunteers.

“Volunteerism is one of Renton’s true treasures.” said Renton Mayor Denis Law. “Hundreds of people contribute thousands of hours, which helps to enhance the richness and quality of life for our residents.”

Volunteers are critical to the success of many programs and services the city provides. To learn more about how to become a volunteer at the Renton Senior Activity Center, call 425-430-6639.
