RENTON – On Thursday, March 7, 2013 the City of Renton held a volunteer recognition banquet at the Renton Senior Activity Center to honor the valuable volunteers who have served in this program over the years. The evening started out spotlighting 21 individuals who were recognized for their efforts and time with a certificate and a Specialized Recreation sweatshirt presented to them by Mayor Denis Law. Overall the programs have a combined total of 30 volunteers who serve in various organized activities. “I had a great time and really enjoyed myself,” said Patti Childs, who is one of the volunteers. Over 150 coaches and families attended this fun-filled evening. The event consisted of great music and delicious hot dogs, chips, ice cream and drinks for everyone there.

The Specialized Recreation programs began in 1979. These fabulous volunteers serve over 300 participants in various programs that include sports, Special Olympics, social, and art activities. If you are interested in volunteering or participating in any of these programs, please call 425-430-6748 or visit rentonwa.gov.
