Red Poppies_DebraHoustonThe Renton Municipal Arts Commission proudly presents oil and acrylic painter Debra Houston.
The exhibit will be available for viewing until June 24.

Inspired by the simplicity of everyday scenes, Debra works to bring those items to their extreme through an expression of dramatic color and exaggerated light. As someone who is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, Debra depicts landscapes and street scenes from an interpretive perspective rather than portraying precise physical locations.

An emotional interest to the subject is her true goal in every piece. Art fascinates Debra in its ability to make a stranger feel or reflect. So whether her pallet is filled with bold, vivid colors or softer neutral tones, a personal connection to the viewer is what she strives for in every piece.

Much of her recent work is done with a pallet knife, which can provide intricate detail while still leaving a lot of room for the viewer’s interpretation. She uses oils and acrylics and paint on a variety of surfaces including canvas, board and Plexiglas.

Carco Theatre, adjacent to the Renton Community Center, is located at 1717 Maple Valley Highway at the intersection of I-405 and Maple Valley Highway. Theatre hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with additional viewing on show nights.
