Winter Storm Prompts Precautions and Closures

RENTON – With frigid weather conditions striking the Puget Sound and promising to stick around for  several days the City of Renton is taking a number of precautionary measures in an effort to keep people informed and, most importantly, safe.  Residents are encouraged to monitor the Critical Emergency Information page on the city’s website at rentonwa.gov for the most current updates, information and valuable resources to help them weather the storm.

Current updates include:

EMERGENCY INSTRUCTIONS
The Office of Emergency Management is closely monitoring the current weather conditions and encourages residents to prepare for continued snow, cold temperatures and an increase in winds possible tonight.  Potential power outages as a result of the weather conditions could leave households in the dark. With freezing temperatures many will turn to alternate heat sources to stay warm, which increase the danger for fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.  Everyone is encouraged to dress warm and take extra precautions if you need to be outside and monitor weather conditions closely.  If you cannot stay in your home shelters are available throughout the county.

SHELTERS
The Renton Community Center located at 1715 SE Maple Valley Highway is open Monday through Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Residents are welcome to seek shelter and use the facility during the current adverse weather situation.

Reminder:  The Renton Community Center will be closed November 11, 25, and 26 and December 23, 24, and 25.

Should conditions worsen and the need for additional shelters and/or extended hours become necessary information will be posted as soon as possible.
