WHAT:

It will be “lights, camera, action” all over Renton this weekend, as 21 local filmmakers and crews compete in the 50-hour third annual Renton FilmFrenzy.  Starting at 5 p.m. Friday, October 8, filmmakers will write, shoot, edit and submit a four-minute completed film by 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 10.

The competition will feature nine high school student crews and 12 open division filmmaking teams.  The Frenzy features filmmakers from Seattle, Woodinville, Tacoma, Des Moines, Kent and Renton.

At the beginning of the competition on Friday evening, participating filmmakers will be provided with three “CurveBall” challenges, which will include incorporating a line of dialogue, a location and a landmark into the film.  Films must be completely shot in Renton and be appropriate for all audiences.

EDITORS:  Following the Filmmakers

Prizes, Curvee Awards Gala and Downtown FilmWalk
The filmmakers will be competing for $1,700 in cash prizes plus the coveted “Curvee” awards. Celebrating the slogan, “Renton, Ahead of the Curve,” the “Curvee” awards have been crafted by local glassworks studio, Uptown Glassworks.

The top films produced during the competition will be screened at a special Renton FilmFrenzy Curvee Awards Gala at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center, 400 South 2nd Street, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26.  The public is welcome to attend this free event.

The Third Annual Renton Downtown FilmWalk will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27, and Thursday, October 28.  During the FilmWalk there will be a special screening of all the films entered in the Renton FilmFrenzy at participating downtown Renton restaurants and other venues. The public is welcome to attend and there is no admission fee.
