August 5, 2010

For more information contact:

Commander K. McClincy, Administrative Services Division, 425-430-7512

The Renton Police Department is proud to welcome a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) on August 21, 2010.  CALEA assessors will examine all aspects of the Renton Police Department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.  The assessors are an experienced team of law enforcement professionals from Baltimore (MD) County Police Department and Wilson (NC) Police Department.

The Renton Police Department first attained CALEA accreditation in 1991.  Maintaining excellence in policing and professionalism in service has resulted in five successful bids for re-accreditation.  As part of the current re-accreditation assessment, all interested persons are encouraged to offer comments about the department’s services and performance at a public information session on August 23, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Renton City Hall.  Comments may also be submitted:

  • Via phone directly to CALEA assessors on August 22, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. by calling 425-430-7582.
  • Via written phone or mail to The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd. Suite 320, Gainesville, VA  20155, or call (703) 352 – 4225.
  • Via email to www.calea.org

Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public hearing are limited to ten (10) minutes.

About CALEA Accreditation

To obtain CALEA accreditation, the Renton Police Department must comply with 389 law enforcement standards covering every facet of the administration and operation of the department, and demonstrate compliance to a team of assessors.  Though the process is completely voluntary, CALEA Accreditation is an affirmation of excellence in law enforcement.

For additional information on the accreditation process, please contact Commander K. McClincy at 425-430-7512 or via email.
