RENTON:   The City of Renton has recently established a Real Estate Sign Kiosk program in partnership with the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties.

Twelve kiosks were recently installed in highly travelled corridors within the city.  The goals of the Real Estate Sign Kiosk program are to provide a wayfinding mechanism for locating residential developments and to provide a uniform sign structure at key locations.  A proliferation of illegal real estate signs has been occurring in Renton and the anticipated benefits of the program include aiding in the elimination of sign clutter.  The city is interested in reducing this clutter and helping stimulate additional home-buying and development activity in order to further its economic development goals for the community.  The signs will also include directional panels to major public facilities, an additional benefit to the community.

While similar programs have been used in other states for many years, the City of Renton is the first municipality in Washington State to institute such a program.  At the conclusion of the three-year pilot program, a status report will be presented to the Renton City Council so that a determination can be made whether to continue the use of real estate kiosks in the city.
