Benson Road in Renton Closed Saturday, February 6

Renton, WA - Benson Road in Renton will be closed all day Saturday February 6, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Renton City Hall and south of I-405 for emergency line work by Seattle City Light.

Seattle City Light’s transmission lines that cross Benson Road experienced a catastrophic failure on January 27, 2010, and have been out of service ever since.  Seattle City Light requires a full road closure to work above the road and it is critical that they repair this major part of their transmission grid.

In addition, Benson Road will be closed from 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, as construction crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) set girders for the new Benson Road Bridge over I-405. Washington State Patrol will be implementing rolling slowdowns on I-405 between I-5 and the Benson Road Bridge Tuesday, February 9, and Thursday, February 11, from midnight to 4 a.m.  Motorists are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes such as I-90, SR 520, and I-5. No oversize loads are allowed on I-405 during construction.

As part of the I-405 Stage 2 Widening project, the northbound ramp from SR 167 to northbound I-405 will also be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, to 4 a.m., Thursday, February 11. Drivers should follow the detours signs around the work zone or avoid the area if possible.
