Renton, WA:  Mayor Denis Law announced the appointment of Deputy Chief Mark Peterson to the position of interim chief of the Renton Fire & Emergency Services Department, effective January 1, 2010.    Deputy Chief Peterson will replace Fire Chief David Daniels who resigned earlier this month to assume the position of fire chief for Woodinville Fire & Life Safety District.

“Mark is a dedicated and highly-respected member of this department. I’m very pleased that he will be joining our management team,” said Mayor Denis Law.

Chief Peterson is a long-time resident of east Renton where he lives with his wife Kelly, and their two daughters.  He is a 30 year veteran of the Renton Fire & Emergency Services Department, beginning his career in 1980.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in management from Bellevue University and has risen through the ranks from firefighter to his current position of deputy chief.  Over the course of his career he has provided leadership in many different divisions of the fire department where he has been responsible for fire suppression, support services, training, fire prevention, public information as well as the direct oversight of response operations.

Chief Peterson said that he is “honored to have been chosen to serve in this new capacity.”  While maintaining outstanding services is a priority for him, he also looks forward to building relationships with other city departments, partner fire districts, and the community.
