24 Filmmakers to Compete in Renton FilmFrenzy

For Immediate Release

October 14, 2009

Renton, WA – It will be “lights, camera, action” all over Renton this weekend, as 24 local
filmmakers and crews compete in the 50-hour Second Annual Renton FilmFrenzy. Starting at 5
p.m. this Friday, October 16, filmmakers must write, shoot, edit and submit a four-minute
completed film by 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 18. The competition will feature 13 student crews
and 11 Open Division filmmaking teams.

At the beginning of the competition Friday night, participating filmmakers will be provided with
three CurveBall challenges, which will include incorporating a line of dialogue, a location and a
landmark into the film. Films must be completely shot in Renton and be appropriate for all
audiences.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: A number of the student and open division filmmakers are available for
interview or are open to being followed during the weekend. Please contact us if you are
interested in this story).

The filmmakers will be competing for $1,700 in cash prize plus coveted “Curvee” awards.
Celebrating the slogan “Renton, Ahead of the Curve,” the “Curvee” awards have been crafted
by local glassworks studio, Uptown Glassworks.

The films will be judged by local filmmakers and a representative from the Renton Municipal
Arts Commission.

The top ten films produced during the competition will be screened at a special Renton
FilmFrenzy Curvee Awards Gala at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center from 7 – 9 p.m.
on October 27. The public is welcome to attend and there is no admission.

The Second Annual Renton Downtown FilmWalk will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. on
Wednesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 29. During the FilmWalk there will be a
special screening of all the films entered in the Renton FilmFrenzy at Downtown participating
Renton restaurants and other venues. The public is welcome to attend and there is no
admission.

“We are excited to bring back the Renton FilmFrenzy after its overwhelming success last
year. The Curvee Awards will be even more coveted this year, so mark your calendars
and prepare for the action!” said Renton Mayor Denis Law.

The Renton FilmFrenzy is sponsored by the Renton Community Marketing Campaign, which
includes the Renton Chamber of Commerce, Renton School District, Valley Medical Center,
Renton Technical College, Renton Visitors Connection and City of Renton. The Frenzy is
presented in cooperation with the Renton Municipal Arts Commission.
