The Renton Municipal Arts Commission (RMAC) is reaching out to the Renton arts and cultural community with two opportunities.  The Commission is currently accepting proposals for the 2009 Arts Grant Program, which provides financial support for artists and organizations desiring to initiate, organize, and promote arts and education to benefit the citizens of Renton.  Through the program, RMAC seeks to provide opportunities for innovation and the development of unique services outside the scope of the Commission’s existing programming.  Arts disciplines include dance, drama/theatre, music, visual arts, literary arts, media arts, and performing arts.

Project funds are available annually as approved by the City Council for the RMAC. Funds available for project proposals are extremely limited, and the Arts Commission encourages project funding requests to be for $1,000 or less.  Artists and organizations promoting art within the Renton School District boundaries can apply for funding.   Applications are due Friday, February 27, 2009, by 4:00 p.m.  Grant awards will be announced by April 15 and projects must be completed by October 30, 2009.  For more information and an application, visit or contact Jennifer Davis Hayes at 425-430-6589 or

The second opportunity is for Renton-area professional and amateur artists, as well as community arts organizations, to sign up for the new Arts & Cultural Registry.  The Arts Commission will send periodic information to all registrants about Calls for Artists, cultural networking events, and other public art opportunities.  The Arts & Cultural Registry is free and can be downloaded from the Arts Commission website at
