Library to get new furniture and prepare for new computers awarded by the Gates Foundation

Renton — The  Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded an Opportunities Online Grant to the Renton Public Library to add six more computers with Internet access to the Highlands branch.  The City of Renton is providing new wiring and new furniture to accommodate the additional computers, which will be located front and center in the main room of the library. To make space for the new furniture, the wire racks that previously contained paperbacks, videos and DVDs have been replaced with standard library shelving designed to hold various media.

The library will be closed on December 18 and will re-open on December 20, with a new layout and new furniture. The new layout and shelves will create aisles for people to move through the library, make it easier to find the DVDs and other media, and will be configured to accommodate the additional computers. The six new computers from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are expected in early spring 2009.
