RENTON: The Renton Fire & Emergency Services Department will be conducting a special training exercise for firefighters on June 17, 18 and 19 that will include the use of real fire scenarios. The house being used for this exercise was donated by John C. Radovich Development Company and is located at 4518 Talbot Road South. Training will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and every effort is being made to increase awareness about this event in order to help reduce any concerns or disruptions to the neighboring residents.

“We don’t get many opportunities like this that provide realistic training for our firefighters and officers,” stated Roy Gunsolus, Fire Captain, Safety/Training Division. “This experience offers hands-on training in the areas of incident command, search and rescue, ventilation, thermal imaging technology, and other fire fighting techniques which are very important to our operations and require training in a realistic environment.”

There will be a number of fire engines, firefighters and equipment in the area during the training.  Some smoke may be visible, but it is important to note that permission was granted by Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.  This agency closely monitors and requires extra precautions be taken to minimize impacts on the environment.  This includes the removal of items such as asbestos, oil- or tar-based roofing/shingles, carpet and linoleum prior to burning.

For more information about this training exercise contact the Training Division at 425- 430-7100.
