RENTON:  On the advice of Public Health - Seattle & King County, the City of Renton Community Services department has temporarily closed the swimming area in Gene Coulon Memorial Beach on Friday, August 24, 2007, until further notice, because testing indicated higher than standard levels of bacteria. Kennydale Beach will remain open.

City of Renton Community Services and the Public Health - Seattle & King County have posted signs advising people to stay off the marked areas of the beach.

Parks staff will be on site from noon to 8:00 p.m. to ask people not to enter the closed area. The city will reopen the beach when it is determined that the levels have returned to normal.

Previously the swimming area at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach was closed on Friday, July 27, 2007 and re-opened again on July 31, 2007, after water-quality tests indicated that it was once again safe for swimming and wading.

For more information, contact Jerry Rerecich, Recreation Director, 425-430-6615 or James Apa, Communications Manager at Public Health - Seattle & King County at 206-205-5442.
