RENTON: Renton residents are invited to enjoy a public fireworks display at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, but will not be allowed to personally discharge fireworks. Since 2005, there has been a total ban on the use, sale and possession of any fireworks within the city limits of Renton.

Fireworks have been the cause of many fires and tragedies. Prior to the ban, property losses caused by fireworks incidents totaled $575,000 over a five-year period, and the city received over 230 calls every year related to fireworks injuries prior to the ban.  Statewide, in 2003 there were 1,072 fires caused by fireworks and 244 fireworks-related injuries, and monetary damage totaled over $4.2 million.

The Renton Police and Fire Departments will actively enforce the ban and will work jointly to issue citations and confiscate fireworks. Violators are subject to both criminal and civil citations and can be fined $100 to $500. Additionally, the sale, possession, and use of explosive devices such as M-80's, M-100's, and homemade or modified fireworks are a felony offense, and violators will face criminal prosecution. To report violators, please call 9-1-1.

To enjoy fireworks in a safe environment, citizens are encouraged to attend the Revo225’s Fabulous 4th of July public fireworks display held on Wednesday, July 4th, at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park in Renton, 1201 Lake Washington Blvd. The event will feature a variety of activities for the kids and exciting stage entertainment, as well as several restaurants and concession stands with food. The day will end with a 20-minute fireworks display at 10:00 p.m.  Event parking will be available in Boeing lots located at N 6th St. and Park Ave N., and N 6th Street and Garden Ave. North.  Free Shuttle Express service will be provided to the park from these lots from 9:00 a.m. to midnight.
