City of Renton Announces Discount Services For Seniors and People with Disabilities

RENTON—The City of Renton and King County offer a variety of practical discounts to qualified resident seniors and the disabled.

Free Fruits & Vegetables

Residents of South King County may be eligible to receive $40 in free vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables at any King County farmers market. The Renton Farmers Market is open Tuesdays from June 5 through September 18, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Piazza on S. 3rd between Burnett Ave. S. and Logan Ave.

What: Limited supply of $40 vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables at for farmers’ markets
Where: Renton Senior Activity Center (211 Burnett Ave N., Renton)
Transportation to the center is available by 2-day advance reservation within Renton School District boundaries. $1. Call 425-430-6633 for reservations.
When: June 11-15, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Who: South King County residents who meet the following criteria:
- At least 60 years old (or 55 and up if Native American)
- Income below $1,574/month. (1 person) or below $2,111/month (2 people)
- Provide identification that shows date of birth and zip code.

Utility Tax Rebates and Discounts

City of Renton residents may qualify for the city utility tax rebates and discount program. Utility tax rebates are available to any qualified resident who paid utility taxes during the year. The rebate is for $110, or prorated for residence of less than one year. Applications are due June 30, 2007.

Utility discounts are also available to Renton residents. Discounts include either a 75% subsidy or a 40% subsidy, depending on income. Applications are available online.

Cable TV Discount

Renton residents may also be eligible to receive a Comcast cable discount. Comcast offers a $36 annual discount.

To qualify for utility tax rebates and discounts and for the Comcast discounts, you must meet the following requirements:
- 62 years or older OR are permanently disabled
- Income $27,250 or less if single or $31,150 for a family of two
- Renton resident
