Holiday Tree Lighting at The Landing - Saturday, November 21st
We’ll have music from local choral groups, Holiday Train rides around The Landing, holiday face painters and balloon artists, holiday treats and real live reindeer from the Cougar Mountain Zoo! At 7:30 p.m., we’ll light the huge 40ft tree!
Thanksgiving Dinner in downtown Renton

K9 Candy Cane 5K Run & Walk - Sunday, December 6th
This run/walk will start at 9:00am at the Renton Community Center and travel along the Cedar River Trail before looping back to the Community Center. Competitive runners, fun runners, walkers, junior athletes, families (with or without dogs) are all invited. Pre-registration advised. Read more.
Renton Trails and Bikeway Master Plan
Renton Trails and Bicycle Master Plan was adopted in May 2009. The master plan supports a city where residents and visitors can enjoy recreation and exercise contributing to a healthy lifestyle, and where commuting by bicycle using an integrated trails/road network, becomes a realistic transportation alternative. Renton voters to determine future of libraries
Renton residents care about their library services and use them regularly. Providing quality, financially sustainable library services to residents is a City priority. The City cannot afford to provide these quality services and programs without additional funding. Strategic investments in Renton libraries are needed in order to maintain and improve future library facilities and services. Renton voters will be asked on the February 9, 2010 ballot whether to annex to the King County Library System (KCLS). Get more information here.
Court Online Payments
Renton Municipal Court is now accepting online payments for traffic infractions, fines, fees and other costs. Visa and MasterCard debit or credit cards as well as e-checks will be accepted. To utilize this service, click here. These payments will take up to two full business days to post to your court account. Please note that online payments for bail cannot be accepted, bail monies must be paid in person. Also note that payments by phone can no longer be accepted. Payments for accounts that have been assigned to collections will not be accepted.
Shop Renton, Buy Ahead of the Curve
Look for your CurveCard attached to the front page of the June 26 edition of the Renton Reporter and then shop at participating businesses who have a CurveCard decal posted in their window to receive discounts or other offers. Additional CurveCards will be distributed through City and Chamber events, including Renton River Days. You may also pick them up in the lobby of Renton City Hall (1055 South Grady Way) or at the Renton Chamber of Commerce (300 Rainier Avenue North). You may also call 425-430-6582 or e-mail dced@rentonwa.gov to have a CurveCard mailed to you.
Maplewood Golf Course Recognized for Environmental Excellence
Maplewood Golf Course has achieved designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program. Steve Meyers, Course Superintendent, has led the effort to obtain sanctuary status on this course and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. Maplewood Golf Course is the 12th course in Washington and the 703rd in the world to receive the honor. Read more.
Swine Flu Outbreak –City, Red Cross Urge Preparedness
The city continues to monitor the recent outbreak of swine flu and plan for response and continuity of operations if the situation reaches pandemic status. This is also a good time for families, businesses and organizations to review and update their preparedness plans. Green River Valley Residents Urged to Buy Flood Insurance
In light of the reduced storage capacity at the Howard Hanson dam and the increased risk of flooding to Green River Valley communities, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Washington Emergency Management Division (WEMD) are urging residents and businesses of the Green River Valley area, to buy flood insurance. Flood insurance is designed to be affordable, and residents of King County may also be eligible for a 40% discount on their premiums. Cedar River Access Trail
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is developing an access trail to the Cedar River upstream of I-405, across from Renton’s Cedar River Park. The trail will function as a public access to the Cedar River for recreational use and in the fall to load adult sockeye salmon into hauling trucks for the Cedar River Sockeye Hatchery. Read More
Comcast’s Expanded Basic Digital Migration Project
Comcast will be switching channels higher than 29 to digital format to free up the spectrum for additional high definition channels and faster Internet service. For Renton, this will occur later this year. Read the Seattle PI article and the KIRO newscast.
Emergency assistance available for PSE low-income customers
Puget Sound Energy is reminding customers having trouble paying their heating bills that almost $29 million in monetary assistance is available this year from two low-income programs administered by community service agencies that recently received increased funding from the PSE and the federal government. Limited Parking at Renton City Hall
In order to provide adequate short term parking for visitors to Renton City Hall, and to minimize traffic congestion, parking on upper level (P3) , will be limited to 2 hours. Additional parking will be available at Sam's Club, on the east side of their main parking lot. Please note that overflow parking is not allowed near their loading dock. SEE MAP (pdf).
Free Blood Pressure Checks for the Public
Receive blood pressure checks from Fire and Emergency Services personnel at City Hall on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 9 a.m. For blood pressure checks other days of the week, visit your local fire station.
