Main Ave S (S 3rd Street to Mill Avenue S) Project

Web page last revised:  September 6, 2017

Project Manager – Keith Woolley, kwoolley@rentonwa.gov, 425-430-7318

Project Description – The project is on Main Avenue S and Bronson Way S, from S 3rd Street to Mill Avenue S.  The objective of the project is to improve downtown circulation, and to improve the business and pedestrian environment.

This project converts Main Avenue S and Bronson Way S from one-way to two-way operation.  Changing to two-way operations will improve access to businesses and reduce vehicle speeds, which will benefit pedestrian safety, comfort, and mobility.  The redesign of Main Avenue S will shorten pedestrian crossing distances at intersections, add landscaping, and urban design amenities.  Traffic improvements will include upgraded pedestrian ramps and crosswalks, street lighting and traffic signal upgrades, and streetscape elements such as street trees.  The combined improvements will result in a sustainable, long term solution to the community’s transportation needs.

Project Schedule Update – The project has been awarded to Jansen, Inc.  Construction began February 6th.  Construction is anticipated to complete in August 2017.

Upcoming work:

In September/October:

  • Punchlist items, plantings
  • Private Developer to complete SW corner

Project Budget –The estimated total project cost is $3.4 million.  This project, phase 1, has received a Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant in the amount $1,024,750 for construction.
