Examples of Renton Green Business Practices

Many Renton businesses and institutions are reducing their impact on the environment through business practices. Reducing facility waste output, creating alternatives to petroleum for travel, improving building energy efficiencies, and working with suppliers to reduce their impacts are all some of the examples. These snapshots were gathered as part of creating a new city strategy, titled “Creating a Clean Economy in Renton.”  Click here to read the business practice examples.

Eastside Green Business Challenge Details

Green Business ChallengeIn an effort to provide a fun, effective and engaging green program for local Renton businesses and to further the environmental health of the entire Renton community, the city is participating in an exciting new program, the Eastside Green Business Challenge. All Renton businesses and organizations are welcome to participate in this voluntary opportunity.
Along with six of our neighboring cities on the east side of Lake Washington, Renton is participating in the EGBC, which is a competition to see who can save the most money and natural resources in one year through sustainability practices. The Challenge is based on successful national examples where, in Chicago, for example, $5 million in savings and significant carbon emissions reductions were realized after the first year.
Renton businesses of all sizes are already integrating sustainable objectives into their work. The City wants to help advance your efforts or help you start, and recognize your successes. Through the Green Business Challenge, participating organizations score their performance and set goals with an online tool and will receive technical assistance to ensure success and improvement. Property managers, tenants and organizations of all sizes and industry will be challenged to voluntarily reduce energy consumption, increase recycling rates, conserve water, and more – increasing the value of your business and driving down costs in the process.

Resources are still available to support your efforts. 2012 offered monthly trainings and free consultations with experts. To register or find out more about participating, click here. Training topics have included Energy Efficiency, Waste Reduction, Water Conservation, Purchasing, Property Management, Commute Trip Reduction, Organizational Development, Carbon Calculator, and Reporting
