Highlands to Landing Pedestrian Connection Project
Project Manager - Keith Woolley, 425-430-7318
Project Description - I-405 is a physical barrier between the Renton Highlands and North Renton. This project provides pedestrian connectivity between the Highlands Urban Center (Renton Highlands) and the Downtown North Urban Center (The Landing/Coulon Park). I-405 separates the connectivity between these areas, and no pedestrian facilities exist along NE Park Drive west of I-405 to Garden Avenue N. This project was conceived by the Highlands Task Force Committee that included residents, businesses, and elected officials from the Renton Highlands.
Planning and conceptual drawings have been completed with design and engineering work to be completed in 2012. After a 30% design process and alternatives selection, the selected alternative will follow the north side of NE Park Drive with curb, gutter, and sidewalk separated by a planter strip where space allows. To provide space for the sidewalk on the bridge crossing the railroad tracks, the north railing will be removed and reconstructed.
Project Schedule - Design will be completed in early 2013 with construction to follow, also in 2013.
Project Budget - Construction is estimated at $2.3 million. Design and construction are both currently funded. The City was awarded a $240,000 Federal CMAQ grant for design of the new pedestrian connection and a $1.7 million Federal CMAQ grant for construction.
