Renton City Concert Band

Conducted by Michael Simpson

What began as the Renton Parks and Recreation Community Band on November 13, 1986, has grown to what is now the Renton City Concert Band. Its evolution has taken its performers from rehearsing at Renton High School to Hazen High School to McKnight Middle School and finally back to Renton High School.

For several years Carco Theatre served as the band’s concert hall. In 2003, having outgrown the theatre’s capacity, the band returned to Renton High School and the larger Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center.

In 1986, the band members outnumbered their first audience. Today, the band is 20 members larger and its audiences are about 25 times larger. Eleven members remain from the original group.

With solid support from Renton city officials, the Renton Community Services Department, experienced leadership within the band and many appreciative audiences, the band has become an important part of the community’s culture.
