Veterans Memorial Park
523 South 3rd Street
In April 1998, the Renton City Council made the recommendation to locate a Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of South 3rd and Main Street. The property was dedicated for memorial purposes in order to commemorate veterans who honorably served their country. Veterans being honored at this memorial are not required to be Renton City residents, and can be living or deceased. However, proof of honorable service is required.
In May 2000, the Renton City Council approved the design for the Veterans Memorial Park, as well as the sculpture located in the Park. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1263 assisted with coordination of the project. The fees for the park design and model of the park were donated by Calvin Jordan Associates, Inc. in association with David Clark Architects. Local artist Sheri Nagy designed the bronze statue of an eagle and American flag that sits atop the stand in the middle of the star. The City of Renton Parks Division maintains the site.
The memorial features five dark green granite walls in the shape of a star. The engraved tiles line the walls. The 6"x 6" granite tiles cost $75.00 each. There is space for three lines of engraved text, with up to 16 characters per line.
In addition to donated funds, the proceeds from the sale of plaques helped fund a portion of the park construction, and will be used for continued maintenance.
Applications for the plaques to commemorate the veterans are available to print from this site or you may call 425-430-6600 to receive an application. Applications can also be picked up from the Community Services Department, Liberty Park Community Building, 1101 Bronson Way N., Renton, WA.
