EJ Hook, Manager of the Woodland Park Zoo Horticulture, Grounds, and Maintenance Departments, will share techniques to maintain a healthy, natural lawn. Come tap into EJ’s fountain of knowledge as he discusses proper mowing, fertilizing, watering, and maintenance practices.
EJ will also discuss how your yard care practices impact Renton’s aquifer and the water we drink.

Learn to manage and utilize stormwater on your property while bringing beauty to your landscape. Landscape designer and horticulturist Jessica Bloom, owner of N.W. Bloom EcoLogical Landscapes, has received numerous awards for her work, including seven at the 2010 NW Flower and Garden Show and the Governor’s Award for Sustainable Practices from the Department of Ecology. Come listen to Jessica share her expertise and discuss rain gardens, cisterns, and other methods to celebrate the rain!

Join educators from the Garden Hotline and learn how to evaluate your site, create a garden plan, choose appropriate plants, and give them a good start with proper planting and mulching techniques. Choosing the right plant for the right place will ensure a healthy garden with fewer maintenance demands down the road.
