Housing Repair Assistance Program

The City of Renton program provides limited funded home repairs to eligible Renton resident's homes in a manner that supports the health and safety of the occupants. There is no cost to eligible Renton homeowners. 

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible one must: (1) Live within the Renton City limits, (2) own the home for at least the last 12 months, and (3) have a total household adjusted gross income that is less than the Maximum Annual Income limits below. Click for more details.

The first service that is automatically provided is a home assessment that is done by Housing Repair Technician.  This gives us important information about your home that allows us to do repairs quickly and efficiently.  It is also how we prioritize the work to be provided at your home.

Services Provided include:

Services are provided at no cost to the client. Maximum expenditures per client per calendar year is up to $6,000, and a maximum of $10,000 in any ten-year period, This is based upon staff's discretion and priority of the need. Health and safety services are done on the primary structure/house only (no carports, free-standing garages, or fences.

    • Monitor for continued pest problems

    • Clear existing vents as needed
    • Install ventilation as needed
    • Target the reduction of mold
    • Target the reduction of moisture
     
  • Keep it safe
    • Reduce trip hazards
    • Install grab bars
    • Install safety lighting
    • Ramp installation
     
  • Keep it contaminant free
    • Reducing Volatile Organic Compounds
    • Replacing CFL lighting with LED lighting
    • Use environmentally friendly products
    • Proper handling of lead paints and asbestos

2. BY MAIL: 

  1. Download the City of Renton Housing Repair Assistance Program application.  (For questions about the application, call the Human Services office at  425-430-6600, or email your questions to humanservices@rentonwa.gov.
  2. Complete the application forms and mail them with the supporting financial documentation to the Human Services office at:

    APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED TILL ALL DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED. 

     
 

CONTRACTORS 

 
The City of Renton Home Repair Program uses  a roster to invite contractors to bid on projects under $4,000.  The lowest reasonable cost and responsible bidder is selected.  Projects include: plumbing, roofing, electrical, furnace repair and replacement, sewer work, and general contracting.  The City of Renton retains the right to remove or suspend a company at any time, based on the City’s opinion of the company’s performance and responsibility.
 
To be on the roster, you will need:

 

  1. Washington State business license and Uniform Business Identification Number (UBI).
  2. City of Renton Business license.
  3. City of Renton vendor application.
  4. Proof of Insurance. For City of Renton insurance requirements.
  5. City of Renton Housing Repair Contractor application.

Other Housing Repair Programs:

King County Housing Repair Program offers deferred payment, zero percent interest loans, and grants for necessary, quality of life home improvements

King County Housing Authority Weatherization free to qualified low-income homeowners and renters

Rampathon- Master Builder's Association builds wheel chair access ramps for free for low-income homeowners in King and Snohomish County.  Applications are accepted September through Mid-February, and the ramps are built over a weekend in May.
