Public Works Department
The Public Works Department protects the health and safety of the community by overseeing the operation and maintenance of the City's infrastructure. It plans and develops core infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing City of Renton. This includes:
- Transportation infrastructure -- a safe and reliable road system and, by working with regional transit agencies, a network of transit options.
- Water supply, storm drainage systems and proper disposal of wastewater.
Under the direction of Gregg Zimmerman, the department is organized into three divisions:
This division operates and maintains the City's infrastructure including: streets, sidewalks, bridges, equipment, water, wastewater, and surface water utility systems. It also monitors the Solid Waste Utility litter control program. Contact Maintenance Services at 425-430-7400.
This division plans, designs, constructs and operates a transportation system that provides safe and efficient movement of people and goods; enhances environmental quality; and is compatible with local and regional mobility goals and development objectives. Management of the Renton Municipal Airport, the sixth busiest airport in the state, is included in this division. Contact this division at 425-430-7321.
The Transportation Systems Division also develops Designated Truck Routes (click here for a map).
Important projects in the 2012-2017 Transportation Improvements Program (Six-Year TIP) include:
This division manages water, wastewater, surface water, and solid waste operations to ensure quality planning, engineering, operations, financial integrity, and customer services.
