Solid Waste Utility

RepublicTruckStarting February 1,  Republic Services will begin collecting garbage and recycling in the city. Many residents have received a Republic welcome packet, but if you haven’t, you should by the middle of the January. The packet contains all relevant information for customers to help make the transition smooth. Here are some of the changes you can expect:

  • No rate increase. Customer rates will remain the same as those Solid Waste Utility rates published in 2016.
  • Current Republic Services customers may experience a rate change based on services subscribed.
  • Organics and recycling collections are included in the rate. No extra charges are assessed.
  • Garbage and recycling will be collected on an every-other-week schedule. Organics will be collected weekly.
  • Republic Services will bill quarterly and maintain a customer service office in downtown Renton at 212 Wells Avenue South.
  • Commercial customers will receive new grey garbage containers and blue recycling containers complete with instructional guides for “what goes where?”

The city will continue to host the Spring and Fall Recycle Days for bulky recyclables and the Reuse It! Renton Stop & Swap Event. Additionally, the Waste Prevention & Recycling Education workshops and city-wide Litter Collection will continue.

Road conditions, especially during the winter months, may impact garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection routes in Renton. Hauler trucks are heavy and both the City and Republic Services are concerned with public safety. Please see the Question and Answer page for winter weather impacts on collection service.
