RENTON: Twelve. That is the magic number this Saturday, September 27, 2008, when the “12th Man Engine,” Renton’s brand new Fire Engine 12, is dedicated at Fire Station 12 in Renton. To help commemorate the event, the Seattle Seahawks’ Blue Thunder drum line will be on hand, along with members of the Sea Gals cheer squad and Blitz, the team mascot.

“It’s exciting to unveil this brand-new fire engine that will provide Renton residents with great service,” said Renton Mayor Denis Law. “Renton is thrilled to have the Seattle Seahawks join our community and by naming Engine 12 after the 12th man, we are celebrating the spirit of the 12th man while providing our community with top-quality fire-fighting equipment our citizens deserve and expect from us.”

This new fire engine replaces an older 1989 engine, which will serve as a reserve and can be placed back into service if needed.  Engine 12 primarily serves the communities of Kennydale and the Renton Highlands.

“Renton has a sparkling new fire engine that is ready to serve our city,” said Renton City Councilmember Greg Taylor. “With its 500 gallon water tank capable of delivering water at 1,500 gallons per minute, Engine 12 is ready to handle almost any kind of emergency incident.”

“This is the newest engine for the department,” said Renton’s Deputy Fire Chief/Fire Marshal William Flora. “Engine 12 will be housed at Fire Station 12, and with the arrival of the Seattle Seahawks here in Renton we thought it only fitting to tie in with the “12th man” signature slogan and informally call this fire engine the “12th Man Engine.”

The community is invited to attend the dedication at noon this Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Fire Station 12, located at 1209 Kirkland Ave. NE in Renton. Renton’s Mayor, Councilmembers and Fire Chief/Emergency Services Administrator will attend the dedication ceremony, which will include a ribbon cutting and a special performance by the Seahawks Blue Thunder drum line. The community will also have an opportunity to meet members of the Sea Gals cheer squad and Blitz, the team mascot.
