Emergency Operations Center
Renton’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC) provides overall coordination of the City’s response to a disaster or an emergency event. The EOC team is made up of members from each city department, the school district, area hospitals, and major industry. Currently, there are three levels of activation depending upon the severity of the event.
- Level 1 – This is the lowest level of activation and is used to monitor events that have the potential to become more serious (severe weather alerts, flood watch, etc.).
- Level 2 – This level of activation is used for events such as a moderate earthquake, a major snow/ice storm or wind storms.
- Level 3 – This is the highest level of activation and is used for extremely serious situations (major earthquake, regional emergencies, etc.).
During any level of activation the EOC Public Information Officer works closely with the media to keep the public informed.
